biblion
。在《新约》时代,最常见的书是纸莎草书卷。约翰所看到的无疑就是这种书卷。直到公元二世纪,才出现装订成册的书。见《SDA圣经注释》卷五,113页。
里外。
一些解经家根据不同的断句方式,认为是指书卷里面写满了字,外面盖上了印。 而认为书卷里外都写着字的理由有两个:第一,希腊短语esoμthen kai opisthen“里外,”似乎是由两个发音相似的副词构成,暗示应该放在一起理解。第二,古代纸莎草书卷的长度一般不超过30英尺。通常在里面写字,但因为受到书卷长度的限制,在内容太多的情况下,有时也写在外面。本节似乎暗示出现了这种情形。一卷纸莎草纸记不下”书”的内容。
七印。

可以理解为羔羊站在四活物与宝座之间,众长老当中。但如果与启4:4,6对照,就会发现这样的排列不甚现实。所以也可理解为羔羊站在所有在场者中间。这样理解或许更合理些。因为祂成了整个异象的焦点(参徒7:56)。
羔羊。
arnion。在《启示录》中出现了29次。但在《新约》其他地方只出现一次(约21:15)。另一个表示“羔羊”的词(amnos)出现在约1:29,36;徒8:32;彼前1:19和赛53:7的七十士译本中。 约翰刚才听到基督被称为狮子和胜利者。可是当他观看时,却看到一只羔羊。这种强烈的反差说明基督取得胜利靠不是靠武力,而是靠品德。最重要的是,宣布祂“配展开那书卷”(见启5:2注释)。祂在与罪恶所作的大斗争中取得胜利,不是靠强权,而是靠祂无罪人生的赎罪牺牲。这正是无瑕疵的羔羊所象征的。 在《新约》中将基督描写为“羔羊”的只有约翰的著作。但腓力和彼得也曾用《旧约》中羔羊的表号来指基督(徒8:32;彼前1:19)。

七角。
七是完全的数字。角象征力量和荣耀(见@哀2:3@注释)。所以羔羊的七角说明祂拥有完全的力量。
七眼。
象征完全的智慧。这些眼睛就是上帝的七灵,代表圣灵(见@启1:4@注释)。在启4:5用了另一个表号——“七灯。”

金炉。

天军回应四活物和二十四位长老见证,一同称颂羔羊的配拿书卷。上帝的公义就这样在众天使面前得到了维护。因为自从撒但在天上开始指控上帝以来,众天使们对上帝驱逐撒但和拯救人类的举措一直未能充分理解(见《历代愿望》第761,764页)。
千千万万。

一切所有被造之物。
诗班的队伍在不断地扩大,回应天军的赞美。所有受造之物一同崇拜圣父和圣子。基督是胜利者。上帝的品德在全宇宙面前得到了维护(见第11节注释)。 第四章和第五章所展示的,是善恶之争的什么画面呢?根据《历代愿望》834页的记载,当基督升天以后被安排在上帝右边的时候,天使唱起了这首诗歌。根据《使徒行述》601,602页,《善恶之争》671页记载,在地球更新的时候,赎民和天使还将永远唱这首诗歌(《证言》卷八第44页;参《先祖与先知》541页;《善恶之争》545,678页)。以上不同的场合,表明《启示录》第四章和第五章的异象不能被认定为代表天庭某一时刻的事件。它是没有时间限制的,象征基督的胜利,及其对上帝品德的维护。有鉴于此,这个异象可以理解为代表上天对圣子和祂钉十字架以来所作之工的态度。这种态度的表达将随着善恶之争的胜利结束而达到高潮。关于象征性异象的性质,见@结1:10@注释。
