†[Kjv]
And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repen

†[BBE]
And he made prayer to the Lord and said, O Lord, is this not what I said when I was still in my country? This is why I took care to go in flight to Tarshish: for I was certain that you were a loving God, full of pity, slow to be angry and great in mercy,
†[GNT]
So he prayed, "Lord, didn't I say before I left home that this is just what you would do? That's why I did my best to run away to Spain! I knew that you are a loving and merciful God, always patient, always kind, and always ready to change your mind and
†[NIV]
He prayed to the Lord , "O Lord , is this not what I said when I was still at home? That is why I was so quick to flee to Tarshish. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending c
†[Kjv]
Therefore now, O LORD, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.
†[Nkjv]
Therefore now, O LORD, please take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live!"
†[BBE]
So now, O Lord, give ear to my prayer and take my life from me; for death is better for me than life.
†[GNT]
Now then, Lord, let me die. I am better off dead than alive."
†[NIV]
Now, O Lord , take away my life, for it is better for me to die than to live."
†[Kjv]
Then said the LORD, Doest thou well to be angry?
†[Nkjv]
Then the LORD said, "Is it right for you to be angry?"
†[BBE]
And the Lord said, Have you any right to be angry?
†[GNT]
The Lord answered, "What right do you have to be angry?"
†[NIV]
But the Lord replied, "Have you any right to be angry?"
†[Kjv]
So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.
†[Nkjv]
So Jonah went out of the city and sat on the east side of the city. There he made himself a shelter and sat under it in the shade, till he might see what would become of the city.
†[BBE]
Then Jonah went out of the town, and took his seat on the east side of the town and made himself a roof of branches and took his seat under its shade till he saw what would become of the town.
†[GNT]
Jonah went out east of the city and sat down. He made a shelter for himself and sat in its shade, waiting to see what would happen to Nineveh.
†[NIV]
Jonah went out and sat down at a place east of the city. There he made himself a shelter, sat in its shade and waited to see what would happen to the city.
†[Kjv]
And the LORD God prepared a gourd, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to deliver him from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd.
†[Nkjv]
And the LORD God prepared a plant and made it come up over Jonah, that it might be shade for his head to deliver him from his misery. So Jonah was very grateful for the plant.
†[BBE]
And the Lord God made a vine come up over Jonah to give him shade over his head. And Jonah was very glad because of the vine.
†[GNT]
Then the Lord God made a plant grow up over Jonah to give him some shade, so that he would be more comfortable. Jonah was extremely pleased with the plant.
†[NIV]
Then the Lord God provided a vine and made it grow up over Jonah to give shade for his head to ease his discomfort, and Jonah was very happy about the vine.

†[Kjv]
But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd that it withered.
†[Nkjv]
But as morning dawned the next day God prepared a worm, and it so damaged the plant that it withered.
†[BBE]
But early on the morning after, God made ready a worm for the destruction of the vine, and it became dry and dead.
†[GNT]
But at dawn the next day, at God's command, a worm attacked the plant, and it died.
†[NIV]
But at dawn the next day God provided a worm, which chewed the vine so that it withered.

†[Kjv]
And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.
†[Nkjv]
And it happened, when the sun arose, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat on Jonah's head, so that he grew faint. Then he wished death for himself, and said, "It is better for me to die than to live."
†[BBE]
Then when the sun came up, God sent a burning east wind: and so great was the heat of the sun on his head that Jonah was overcome, and, requesting death for himself, said, Death is better for me than life.
†[GNT]
After the sun had risen, God sent a hot east wind, and Jonah was about to faint from the heat of the sun beating down on his head. So he wished he were dead. "I am better off dead than alive," he said.
†[NIV]
When the sun rose, God provided a scorching east wind, and the sun blazed on Jonah's head so that he grew faint. He wanted to die, and said, "It would be better for me to die than to live."

†[Kjv]
And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.
†[Nkjv]
Then God said to Jonah, "Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?" And he said, "It is right for me to be angry, even to death!"
†[BBE]
And the Lord said to Jonah, Have you any right to be angry about the vine? And he said, I have a right to be truly angry.

But God said to him, "What right do you have to be angry about the plant?" Jonah replied, "I have every right to be angry - angry enough to die!"
†[NIV]
But God said to Jonah, "Do you have a right to be angry about the vine?" "I do," he said. "I am angry enough to die."

拿4:10 耶和华说:“这蓖麻不是你栽种的,也不是你培养的;一夜发生,一夜干死,你尚且爱惜;

上主说:“你为这株篦麻,并没有劳过力,也没有使它生长,还怜惜它:它不过是一夜生,出一夜死去的植物;

But the LORD said, "You have had pity on the plant for which you have not labored, nor made it grow, which came up in a night and perished in a night.

And the Lord said, You had pity on the vine, for which you did no work and for the growth of which you were not responsible; which came up in a night and came to an end in a night;
†[GNT]
The Lord said to him, "This plant grew up in one night and disappeared the next; you didn't do anything for it and you didn't make it grow - yet you feel sorry for it!
†[NIV]
But the Lord said, "You have been concerned about this vine, though you did not tend it or make it grow. It sprang up overnight and died overnight.

†[Kjv]
And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more then sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?
†[Nkjv]
And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left--and much livestock?"
†[BBE]
And am I not to have mercy on Nineveh, that great town, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand persons without the power of judging between right and left, as well as much cattle?
†[GNT]
How much more, then, should I have pity on Nineveh, that great city. After all, it has more than 120,000 innocent children in it, as well as many animals!"
†[NIV]
But Nineveh has more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left, and many cattle as well. Should I not be concerned about that great city?"
