†[Kjv]
Woe to them that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they practise it, because it is in the power of their hand.
†[Nkjv]
Woe to those who devise iniquity, And work out evil on their beds! At morning light they practice it, Because it is in the power of their hand.
†[BBE]
A curse on the designers of evil, working on their beds! in the morning light they do it, because it is in their power.
†[GNT]
How terrible it will be for those who lie awake and plan evil! When morning comes, as soon as they have the chance, they do the evil they planned.
†[NIV]
Woe to those who plan iniquity, to those who plot evil on their beds! At morning's light they carry it out because it is in their power to do it.
†[Kjv]
And they covet fields, and take them by violence; and houses, and take them away: so they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.
†[Nkjv]
They covet fields and take them by violence, Also houses, and seize them. So they oppress a man and his house, A man and his inheritance.
†[BBE]
They have a desire for fields and take them by force; and for houses and take them away: they are cruel to a man and his family, even to a man and his heritage.
†[GNT]
When they want fields, they seize them; when they want houses, they take them. No one's family or property is safe.
†[NIV]
They covet fields and seize them, and houses, and take them. They defraud a man of his home, a fellowman of his inheritance.
†[Kjv]
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, against this family do I devise an evil, from which ye shall not remove your necks; neither shall ye go haughtily: for this time is evil.
†[Nkjv]
Therefore thus says the LORD: "Behold, against this family I am devising disaster, From which you cannot remove your necks; Nor shall you walk haughtily, For this is an evil time.
†[BBE]
For this cause the Lord has said, See, against this family I am purposing an evil from which you will not be able to take your necks away, and you will be weighted down by it; for it is an evil time.
†[GNT]
And so the Lord says, "I am planning to bring disaster on you, and you will not be able to escape it. You are going to find yourselves in trouble, and then you will not walk so proudly any more.
†[NIV]
Therefore, the Lord says: "I am planning disaster against this people, from which you cannot save yourselves. You will no longer walk proudly, for it will be a time of calamity.
†[Kjv]
In that day shall one take up a parable against you, and lament with a doleful lamentation, and say, We be utterly spoiled: he hath changed the portion of my people: how hath he removed it from me! turning away he hath divided our fields.
†[Nkjv]
In that day one shall take up a proverb against you, And lament with a bitter lamentation, saying: "We are utterly destroyed! He has changed the heritage of my people; How He has removed it from me! To a turncoat He has divided our fields."'
†[BBE]
In that day this saying will be said about you, and this song of grief will be made: The heritage of my people is measured out, and there is no one to give it back; those who have made us prisoners have taken our fields from us, and complete destruction h
†[GNT]
When that time comes, people will use the story about you as an example of disaster, and they will sing this song of despair about your experience: We are completely ruined! The Lord has taken our land away And given it to those who took us captive."
†[NIV]
In that day men will ridicule you; they will taunt you with this mournful song: 'We are utterly ruined; my people's possession is divided up. He takes it from me! He assigns our fields to traitors.' "
†[Kjv]
Therefore thou shalt have none that shall cast a cord by lot in the congregation of the LORD.
†[Nkjv]
Therefore you will have no one to determine boundaries by lot In the assembly of the LORD.
†[BBE]
For this cause you will have no one to make the decision by the measuring line in the meeting of the Lord.
†[GNT]
So then, when the time comes for the land to be given back to the Lord's people, there will be no share for any of you.
†[NIV]
Therefore you will have no one in the assembly of the Lord to divide the land by lot.
†[Kjv]
Prophesy ye not, say they to them that prophesy: they shall not prophesy to them, that they shall not take shame.
†[Nkjv]
"Do not prattle," you say to those who prophesy. So they shall not prophesy to you; They shall not return insult for insult.
†[BBE]
Let not words like these be dropped, they say: Shame and the curse will not come to the family of Jacob!
†[GNT]
The people preach at me and say, "Don't preach at us. Don't preach about all that. God is not going to disgrace us.
†[NIV]
Do not prophesy," their prophets say. "Do not prophesy about these things; disgrace will not overtake us."
†[Kjv]
O thou that art named the house of Jacob, is the spirit of the LORD straitened? are these his doings? do not my words do good to him that walketh uprightly?
†[Nkjv]
You who are named the house of Jacob: "Is the Spirit of the LORD restricted? Are these His doings? Do not My words do good To him who walks uprightly?
†[BBE]
Is the Lord quickly made angry? are these his doings? do not his words do good to his people Israel?
†[GNT]
Do you think the people of Israel are under a curse? Has the Lord lost his patience? Would he really do such things? Doesn't he speak kindly to those who do right?"
†[NIV]
Should it be said, O house of Jacob: "Is the Spirit of the Lord angry? Does he do such things?" "Do not my words do good to him whose ways are upright?
†[Kjv]
Even of late my people is risen up as an enemy: ye pull off the robe with the garment from them that pass by securely as men averse from war.
†[Nkjv]
"Lately My people have risen up as an enemy-- You pull off the robe with the garment From those who trust you, as they pass by, Like men returned from war.
†[BBE]
As for you, you have become haters of those who were at peace with you: you take the clothing of those who go by without fear, and make them prisoners of war.
†[GNT]
The Lord replies, "You attack my people like enemies. Men return from battle, thinking they are safe at home, but there you are, waiting to steal the coats off their backs.
†[NIV]
Lately my people have risen up like an enemy. You strip off the rich robe from those who pass by without a care, like men returning from battle.
†[Kjv]
The women of my people have ye cast out from their pleasant houses; from their children have ye taken away my glory for ever.
†[Nkjv]
The women of My people you cast out From their pleasant houses; From their children You have taken away My glory forever.
†[BBE]
The women of my people you have been driving away from their dearly loved children; from their young ones you are taking my glory for ever.
†[GNT]
You drive the women of my people out of the homes they love, and you have robbed their children of my blessings forever.
†[NIV]
You drive the women of my people from their pleasant homes. You take away my blessing from their children forever.
†[Kjv]
Arise ye, and depart; for this is not your rest: because it is polluted, it shall destroy you, even with a sore destruction.
†[Nkjv]
"Arise and depart, For this is not your rest; Because it is defiled, it shall destroy, Yes, with utter destruction.
†[BBE]
Up! and go; for this is not your rest: because it has been made unclean, the destruction ordered will come on you.
†[GNT]
Get up and go; there is no safety here any more. Your sins have doomed this place to destruction.
†[NIV]
Get up, go away! For this is not your resting place, because it is defiled, it is ruined, beyond all remedy.
†[Kjv]
If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood do lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people.
†[Nkjv]
If a man should walk in a false spirit And speak a lie, saying, "I will prophesy to you of wine and drink,' Even he would be the prattler of this people.
†[BBE]
If a man came with a false spirit of deceit, saying, I will be a prophet to you of wine and strong drink: he would be the sort of prophet for this people.
†[GNT]
"These people want the kind of prophet who goes around full of lies and deceit and says, "I prophesy that wine and liquor will flow for you.'
†[NIV]
If a liar and deceiver comes and says, 'I will prophesy for you plenty of wine and beer,' he would be just the prophet for this people!
†[Kjv]
I will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of thee; I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah, as the flock in the midst of their fold: they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men.
†[Nkjv]
"I will surely assemble all of you, O Jacob, I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together like sheep of the fold, Like a flock in the midst of their pasture; They shall make a loud noise because of so many people.
†[BBE]
I will certainly make all of you, O Jacob, come together; I will get together the rest of Israel; I will put them together like the sheep in their circle: like a flock in their green field; they will be full of the noise of men.
†[GNT]
"But I will gather you together, all you people of Israel that are left. I will bring you together like sheep returning to the fold. Like a pasture full of sheep, your land will once again be filled with many people."
†[NIV]
I will surely gather all of you, O Jacob; I will surely bring together the remnant of Israel. I will bring them together like sheep in a pen, like a flock in its pasture; the place will throng with people.
†[Kjv]
The breaker is come up before them: they have broken up, and have passed through the gate, and are gone out by it: and their king shall pass before them, and the LORD on the head of them.
†[Nkjv]
The one who breaks open will come up before them; They will break out, Pass through the gate, And go out by it; Their king will pass before them, With the LORD at their head."
†[BBE]
The opener of the way will go up before them: forcing their way out they will go on to the doorway and out through it: their king will go on before them, and the Lord at their head.
†[GNT]
God will open the way for them and lead them out of exile. They will break out of the city gates and go free. Their king, the Lord himself, will lead them out.
†[NIV]
One who breaks open the way will go up before them; they will break through the gate and go out. Their king will pass through before them, the Lord at their head."
