愚顽人
(nabal)。指在道德或智力方面有缺陷的人。这里的nabal 似乎指缺乏智慧,道德观念和属灵观察力,看不见道德和宗教方面的价值。他们是实利主义者,按照规模和权力来判断价值。“愚顽人”的最好注释是《箴言》。
没有上帝
。愚顽人为了社交和生意,口头上也许承认上帝,但他们“心里”没有信仰上帝的位置(见罗1:20,21)。
没有一个人行善
。这是一幅完全堕落的画面,是以下几节所强调的。保罗曾引用1-3节证明犹太人和外帮人都受罪恶所控制(罗3:10-12)。

偏离正路
。即偏离公义的道路。
变为污秽
('alach)。与一个表示牛奶变酸的阿拉伯语词根有关系。该词只用在伯15:16和诗53:3的相应句子里。诗53:3是与诗14:1相对应的。

并不求告耶和华

义人的族类
。上帝帮助和保护那些在祂的眼前行义的人。关于“族类”,见诗12:7;参诗24:6;73:15。在乌加列文献中(见第618页),该词译为“会众”或“住处”。也许就是本句的意思。

。见诗2:6注释。锡安经常被说成是上帝的住处。祂从在那里统治着世界。
救回他被掳的子民
。不一定指字面上的被掳。希伯来人经常离乡背井(见《士师记》)。这句话常用来表示摆脱受压迫或属灵低落的状况(见伯42:10;结16:53;何6:11;摩9:14)。
雅各
。常与“以色列”并提(见诗78:21,71;105:23),在整部《旧约》中是对希伯来人的又一个称呼(见赛2:3;摩7:2)。关于“以色列”,见创32:28注释。本诗一开始描绘普世的不信现象;在结束时宣布希望以色列最终得救。
